humanoid x is cpus deepest foray into detroit techno so far, from blixaboy aka mwanza dover texas based artist, friend of cygnus and very much part of the local electro scene. dover presents an album influenced by the pioneers of the hypnotic groove. on first pass you’ll find elements of krautrock through to the belleville three, all with finely crafted arrangements that reveal themselves in more detail on each listen. a cyberpunk theme runs throughout as blade runner-esque synths wash over the album evoking late night electric-city noodle restaurant contemplation. blixaboy has selected 4 of the more dj friendly tracks from the album for the vinyl e.p. treatment.

poker flat recordings deliver another killer collaboration, this time between berlins youandme and the analog roland orchestra. the result is reflection an ep containing more than its fair share of pure dance-floor moments. the analog roland orchestra is michal matlak, the berliner whose intimate knowledge of dance musics most iconic machines has made him a much-in-demand producer and remixer. teaming up with party starters youandme as well as vocalist black soda, the title track of this release explores deep vibrations, merging 303 basslines, crisp 909 programming and a highly effective vocal. the dub tool reworks the vocals into a more spacey arrangement, adding atmosphere for djs who like to keep their sets stripped back and trippy. the hyenah remix flips the script and develops a deep afro-house inspired cut the man from the caymen islands developing an irresistible groove stretched out over seven and a half minutes. the acid mix gives an opportunity for the guys to get busy working the 303 to its full (un) natural potential, while the morning light mix locks into a cosmic vibe shimmering synths over a smooth, rolling deep house vibe

relaxer returns with the second installment on their eponymous label. heavy, virulent and filled with longing, relaxer draws us further into the artist’s fascinating & unique world. side a’s “hissing flora” unspools organically over ten minutes, its melodic tendrils wrapping around a corroded vocal atop a heaving low end. on side b, “weekend” drifts through a beatless mist, with flickers of venomous voices and crumpling synths that shine through drawn shades. “climate of fear” snaps the listener out their uneasy rest with stomping percussion, overflowing arpeggiations and keening harmonies.

minimood continues with a deep piece of heady minimal from esteem german producer sascha dive with a mesmerizing remix by celebrated dutch producer ion ludwig. the after the storm ep is released on vinyl only. after the storm is ten sumptuous minutes of moody and atmospheric deep minimal house with warbling synths, meandering drums and spooky, spaced out atmospheres. the drums roll on free from any friction and the pads are delicate, elegant affairs that circle round you and leave you hanging in a wide open space. vocals sounds like those from a spaceship s pa and lend the whole thing a sense that you are voyaging through the galaxies. it is a truly burrowing track that gets right into your mind, body and soul. ion ludwig s remix is quicker and more synthetic, with waify pads, gently breaking waves and fizzing little modular synth lines that are crisp and rhythmic and will fit perfectly into a set by the likes of ricardo villalobos. this is classy and subtle music that is stripped back and slow burning yet has a huge impact.

when la label acid test decided to start the leftfield imprint, avenue 66, they looked to new jersey house mystic joey anderson for an opening salvo. he delivered the modern psych-dance masterpiece above the cherry moon. now andersons back again with more of his beguiling dreamlogic. on if one cares, they act different anderson works with a lead that could score an unsettling 80s horror flick, eventually introducing his signature quicksilver synths and abstract, jacking drum patterns. peace there starts with the square-wave basslines and raspy hats taking us to a psychedelic far away place. on the vase, anderson reins things in, but even his bittersweet, relatively straight-head deep house tracks present an odd paradox. his music so alien and human all at once.

when hitting a streak it s best to keep going. for a prolific producer like ubx127 one ep just wasn t enough to keep up with his continuous output of high quality techno. constant permutation part 2 picks up where its predecessor left off and provides for another batch of deadly club weapons. living up to its title, beatless explorations sends out eerie signals deep into outer space, anticipating with suspense to maybe find some life form s response. it arrives in form of driving track felt and its ricocheting, arpeggiated synths, which would aptly soundtrack the decent of alien attack ships on our planet. weighty, yet mysterious Örnsberg seems to echo with the cries of long lost souls that have been trapped eternally inside its icy caverns. the ep ends with a masterclass in immersive sound design, a constant ebb and flow of layers, winding their way into the listeners subconscious. filling up a pair of twelves to the brim with tunes this well thought out and executed, ubx127 further displays his vast potential and leaves us with excitement for whatever he might be coming up with next.

disparate producers with complimentary sounds, evil needle and sivey met in an online beat community 6 years ago and to this day have never met in real life. nonetheless, they present their first official ep, ‘constructive interference’, to the world. ‘constructive interference’ was created over the span of 3 years and embodies the unique soundscapes of each producer. evil needle, based in strasbourg france just on the border of germany pulls inspiration from traditional hip hop, neo-soul and trap music while seamlessly weaving in open synths and chunky chord progressions. manchester, uk-based sivey incorporates soulful beat-oriented music with what he calls “emotional highs and lows that are still musically stimulating” adding a beautifully uptempo sensibility.

following the avonmore remix ep, bryan ferry now collaborates with leo zero, ray mang, leftside wobble and justin robertson to release the new ‘avonmore’ (dub) ep. pressed on 180g heavyweight vinyl and housed in a screen-printed sleeve, this record is an edition of 500. the dub ep contains a broad pallete of sounds, scenes and genres which are traversed along the course of this four track vinyl. kicking off in style with a version of ‘loop di li’. leo zero’s take is sun-kissed and breezy, with trilling riffs and sweeping synths. uk disco-don, ray mang then offers a more pumping, groove driven effort that wraps ferry’s unique vocals up in a neo-balearic cool. flip over to the b side two listen to two fascinating versions of ‘driving me wild’, both hosting that lush 80s nostalgia. mastered on the emi 1400 and pressed to 180g heavyweight vinyl, avonmore dubs features both a bespoke screen printed thick card outer sleeve and a bespoke inner sleeve.

made of concrete release number 11 sees a joint effort from danny kotz and avi caspi in the form of an incursion into the deep end of spacious techno. reject unfolds steadily, as spatial loops intertwine with piercing zippy synths. the laid back melodic outline is aptly layered with sombre french vocals by laurie eve jasmine de larohe which giving the track a mysterious yet groovy appeal. starting off with a subdued bassline, canopy follows a slowly ascending groove, as progressive synths and wavy hooks further the track into deep tech territory. for the b side, myles sergé swiftly jumps in on the reject remix, stripping down its embellishing elements and shifting focus towards the bassline. what ensues is a compact backdrop where the bass and percussion take the lead, resulting in an intensely danceable reinterpretation of the original. stepping away from the murky ambiance present in previous tracks, karat boosts a slightly more vivacious range of harmonics. energetic synths set a peppy, 70sreminiscing mood, while the melody keeps the cut anchored into present day electronica.

lowercase life is a new record label releasing limited vinyl editions with hand made artwork covers. label owner colophon kicks off with the 1st ep trying to catch the spirit that once started in detroit. three tracks created on old analogue synths and drum machines combined with new software technologies. in addition to the original tracks florian kupfer (l.i.e.s.) delivers a remix with a raw, uncompromising one-take hardware recording like only he can.

ben sun returns to delusions for his 4th release on the label including three more tracks which show the australian via london on his best form yet. full moon kicks off the tides ep at full throttle with a muscular conga-led disco house roller. slurping 909 hats and the most twisted of synth solos courtesy of regular collaborator fantastic man (and his beloved juno 60) provide the icing on this simple bass-cake which never fails to energize the dancefloor in the most special of ways. star ritual drops next, going heavy on the percussion once again for a minimal stripped back drum tool which packs a mighty punch. dubbed out vocal hits punctuate the beautifully loose groove with subtle hints of afrobeat implied by the bassline making for a warm summer track dripping with tropical vibes. finally we have glass waves bringing the ep to a glorious close, all chiming synths, bouncing moog bass and waves of chords layering on top of a heavy drum track. ben repping an early 90’s blissed out nu groove mood on this one and managing to sound as fresh as ever in the process

deep site vinylized return with a special 4 track v/a release for those late summer parties, marc cotterell opens thing up with the organ-powered garage infected sunset vibes. synthesizer solos dominate the view while subtle rhodes and b-3 phrases meander in the funky framework. next up welcoming an old deep house favourite from glasgow calum walker of fresh and low delivering the beautifully understated string theory which builds like a cinematic theme tailor made for dance floors. synths pulses and dramatic themes intermingle with subtle string lines laying boldly within driving rhythms. the flip side brings a return to deep site for addex who comes on smooth and strong with blazing, utilizing solid drums and bubbling percussive edges. the synth pads build slowly in juxtaposition with the cloud stabs and analogue melodic flourishes. closing with erotic soul from even furtuna featuring the writers poet is a chicago deep styled gem with its gorgeously stated poetry flowing through a bed of bass, organ, and builds. the main infectious riff plays well off of the verse breaks. enjoy!

desolat label boss loco dice is back with what is sure to be a massive autumn package: he has remixed the seminal dance track ‘go’ by the legendary moby, twice, and has made it all his own in the process. moby needs little introduction: the american dance producer and live performer’s albums are classics of the genre that are celebrated far and wide. they have been used on thousands of adverts, have given rise to hit singles all over the world and have made him one of the most celebrated electronic music stars of our time. his ‘go’ track was what started it all for him back in the 90’s, and was a bona fide club classic of the day. it still resonates today and always gets crowds going. now it has been remixed twice by loco dice, who has added his own stamp to it in distinctive fashion. his first excellent version is eight minutes of chunky and tribal drums, with rubber kicks, clipped horn stabs and big hits all building the pressure. those most famous vocal cries really finish it off in style, and ensure that dance floors will go wild whenever it is dropped, as do wonky synths and big piano chords at the breakdown. the second version is more emotive, with big sweeping strings smeared in the background to help make it all the more dramatic, teary eyed and impactful on the floor. this one is for the peak time in any set and is sure to make the most memorable moment of any night. both remixes here pack a real punch, and whilst remaining true to the original, they both sound just like you would expect from modern dance heavyweight loco dice.

finish techno pioneer and dum records boss kimmo rapatti aka mono junk and melody boy 2000 is back with another fine ep of some of his greatest tracks. all three have been released before now, but never all together on the same ep. a1 sound stealer was released in 2007 under the melody boy 200 alias and since then has been hugely sought after, often fetching high prices on discogs. it is a high impact techno track with racing drums and chattery percussion that will take any floor by storm. a2 all alone, again as melody boy 2000, has only been released on cd before now, as part of a label compilation back in 2002. this one is deep and rubbery, spaced out and elastic and is full of moodiness and melody. both b-side tracks were written as mono junk and both were written in 1992. first up, apache acid came on vinyl own music man and is a face melting, hundred miler per hour banger with manic 303s buried within. finally, ‘beyond the darkness’ was a key early techno track to come from finland and has previously been released on dum010. says the artist of the track, “an ensoniq asr-10 arrived on the market and studio engineer perttu bought it right away, but i never liked to use sounds that someone else had made. we sampled the track’s bassline, strings and others from my jx-3p separately and mixed it all together.” the result is an atmospheric track with swirling pads, icy synths and form drums that will make people march, no doubt.

system boss mike gervais is back at it, and he’s bringing a crew of talented conspirators to surround you on four sides with an original cut and three distinctly different interpretations. surrounded drops in with a thumping kick following a relentlessly rolling synth through taut drum programming, sizzling ride cymbals, and crisp claps to build tension on the dance floor. annie hall takes the suspense of the original deep underground, for a subterranean journey through throbbing bass, corroded synths and filthy atmospherics, straight to the nucleus of the netherworld. jesse jakob pumps up the kick for a jacking reinterpretation laden with warehouse synths and a barrage of claps for big rooms. project 313 slips into a shadowy maze of smoke and mirrors to bend their remix into a lithe and rubbery low­down groove, perfect for heating things up early or when it’s time to stay long and get weird.

early september will see jorge savoretti release his river plate ep via visionquests special edition imprint, comprising three original compositions from the argentinian artist. having been involved in electronic music as a dj for over two decades now jorge savoretti is firmly cemented as one of the argentinas finest electronic music exports, starting from his humble beginnings in rosario he has gone on to release material with esperanza, claque musique and igloo-rec as well as touring the globe throughout. here we see jorge mark his debut for the visionquest special edition imprint with a new three tracker and taking the lead is title track river plate, radiantly showcasing savorettis dub-infused percussive led style with choppy swinging drums, ethereal pad swells a snaking sub groove and dub chords which ebb and flow throughout. following is parana high which takes a more refined, low-slung approach via soft chord flutters, bright stab sequences and bumpy sub hits while a shuffled percussive drive further fuels the groove. last up to complete the package is u-fonk which delves into darker territories with mind- bending glitch synths, robust rhythms and a vacillating bass lead running throughout its six minute duration.

for this inaugural release the french label bfdm introduces two young promising producers aka the pilotwings. agorespace is an excursion, a trip where dark and killer drums meet with some soft melodies and primitive percussion. trance beats is a wonky house track made up of hip-hop/jungle breaks and synthetic animal sounds, a powerful combination of tribal rhythm and creepy synths. on the same side comes cavernes magiques, a modern electronic tune where raw 707 jams gives way to trippy dance pads, 90s influences. on the other side a strong techno track contrasted with bright synths called cours-la-ville, a dark and long exploration.

creative partnership audiofly are the next to release on crosstown rebels with the show stopping in the (last) moment featuring the angelic voice of georgia lewis. the release comes complete with a steadfast remix from germanys robag wruhme. in the (last) moment sets the foundation with broken chuggy beats as intricate layers and grumbling pads unfold beneath the beautiful sounds of georgias voice. audiofly explain that,sometimes its nice to not have to write the usual peak time bomb, with this one we followed our hearts and the vibe of young vocalist georgia lewis and what emerged was a sunrise moment. with 13 years behind them anthony middleton and luca saporito aka audiofly have established a creative empire, which includes two record labels and their flying circus global party brand, which celebrated its 10th anniversary earlier this year with a world tour. working harder than ever, a second artist album is in the works following on from 2011 long-player follow my liebe. industry veteran robag wruhme has more recently had releases on the likes of kompakt and pampa records. here he makes an imprint on crosstown rebels with this epic remix that fuses elated synths and industrial elements over solid rolling percussion.

katastrofa ep is an ex-yu edits release which transforms forgotten gems from the former yugoslavia. russian valique and serbian veteran selector funky junkie are behind this project. opener katastrofa offers a delicious blend of heavy, synth-laden 80s boogie, punchy afrobeat horns and bold, chant a-long vocals, while the slower, more chugging frka is an adriatic delight all lazy, sun-kissed synths, sugary sweet vocals and sloppy kisses. as for closer yugoslavia, it sounds like a disco-house anthem in waiting, as the duo adds bumpin beats to a rising, horn-heavy chunk of starlight disco

emotional especial comes together with future nuggets for a -special- one-off collaboration. reinterpreting the music of steaua de mare are four remixes from rising (eastern) stars khidja and mehmet aslan. the first in a short series of especial -specials- - where new artists are brought together for unique releases - we start by teaming up with future nuggets to present again the sonic offshoot in the unique band, steaua de mare. returning in remix form, songs from their self-titled album, as well as extra additions, are specially reworked. first khidja take album track babadag to new psychedelic depths, adding multiple layers of guitar and synths, all inexhaustibly dubbed and re-dubbed until a whole new track emerges for the more discerning minds. next mehmet aslan is focused on the dance-floor, carefully reconstructing new track shop into a club orientated groove, aiming straight at the feet with inevitable results. on the flip, mehmet then reworks album highlight, doamne ce greseala am, amassing tension in careful, subtle ways, crafting a version that is a proper meeting of hearts and minds. to finish, khidja return to remix the previously unreleased 1 septembrie. going to great lengths in managing a myriad of details, with balearic, kraut, pseudo-disco and exotica reverberations all pulsating, here then are on point examples of remix manipulation. a perfect way to start this series and showcase these wonderful artists.

attic laqs series continues with the owner of gravite records bruno sacco. his work starts with some grainy-noisey grooves in a danceable rhythm and pressurized synths. in the b-side sacco turns into a nine minutes deep techno track imaginaria. a dark corridor where different shades of pads get a conversation with an acidic chord in a lighted nocturnal way.

nagamatzu were the british duo of andrew lagowski (seti, legion, terror against terror) on synths, guitar, and programming and stephen jarvis (pure motorised instinct, terraform) on synths and bass. formed in 1982 after messing around with old tape machines and drum boxes, making numerous contributions to international compilations and erratically releasing their own cassettes. their name comes from a character in jg ballard‘s “atrocity exhibition” and their music reflects his influence. nagamatzu self-released their debut cassette “shatter days” in 1983 after messing around with old tape machines, drum boxes and effects.

bring the balance! gorge & markus homm join forces for their first 8bit collaboration and with each of them contributing own productions plus a joined feature, this ep has deep pressed right on. come into my life by homm hooks with rollin’ drums and a dirty saw bass to go along. don t give up is straight up gorge - combining evolving synths, fading delays and filtered vox into a deep club groove. balance brings together the best in both styles and delivers pure dance floor quality. a great premiere for this duo & rumor has it there’s more to come..

damien lynch enjoys countryside a drive in the twilight hour. this is his second offering for the esp institute. on side a, brunette opens with a straight-ahead techno thump of hi-hats and a pulsating 16th-note bassline—a subtle playing field composed solely with a rare 1970’s italian machine, the godwin drummaker 32, unearthed from the secret back room of a music shop in rural ireland where it hid among wonderful vintage russian synths and oddball electronics. this elegant track drips with warm and phasing pads, gentle staccato keys and beautifully simple arpeggios that blur every now and then—all affirming damien’s less-is-more ideology. with side b’s forced relax, damien continues to exercise his restraint, arranging his instruments in a band-like fashion, affording each player the sonic space to project their individual qualities whilst supporting an overall dialogue. there is a soft ebb and flow to every machine’s role, whether the swelling of bass or the interplay of percussive keys, but when these characters arrive in one place, the result is a tranquil euphoria. these two songs will accept you for who you truly are.

benedikt frey s arresting out of here was the second entry of our blanc series. originally a vinyl-only limited release, now the track gets a fresh new treatment in the hands of two mainstays of european techno: roman flugel and simon haydo. flugel s cosmic disco drama rework lives up to its name, maintaining the noir disco spirit of the original track but infusing it with tension-building sequences and strings that give it an extra mischievous twist. our favorite frankfurter also straightens the rhythmic skeleton and adds shuffling shakers to make it a relentless dancefloor weapon. haydo s remix delves into a more dismal terrain, transforming the vocals into haunted echoes, adding esoteric synths and topping it all with razor-sharp percussion in what sounds like a storm of ice asteroids falling into a lake of steel. the 12inch comes in a beautiful sleeve featuring an exclusive illustration by barcelona-based artist pau lopez and design by arnau pi.

what s in the du name? 030303 records asked three of their favourite prod ucers with matching names to du an ep together: ann harbour s d marc cantu and mark du mosh & paul du lac, both from the dutch harbour city rotterdam. the result is dynamite! a1-mine motion- is a monsterous jacker in the rawest form how only mr cantu can du! on the b side mark du mosh takes off with a flight to -bermuda- with a hot & steamy roaring electronic beast sitting on the wing of the plane and causing some heavy turbulence. fortunatly du mosh keeps us flying high with some deep emotional synths. last but not least paul du lac delivers a dark psychedelic techtool called -beta rhythm-. a track that creeps under your skin as a virus, causing some serious haziness from noding your head. be aware that this record will appear on vinyl only!

jesus was black goes to chile thanks to the new vinyl release by the hand of producer andre butano & felipe. push cat ep, the artists first release for the label, is a refreshing fusion of the organic beats and the avant-garde music. the title track brings on an underground micro house essence with a thick bass rhythm and crazy voices. the ep features two cold remixes from the spanish talent jairo catelo (darkroom dubs, plastic city) with his bubbling synths and house rhythms making a master deep piece. jorge savoretti (viva music, little helpers) make it with hypnotic broken beats and maintains the deep feel that brought him to jesus was black. closing the ep we can find an awesome original track like -rework- with vinyl popping accents and a couple of vocal hooks, a track to make everyone sweat on the dance floor.

nice price deal !!! one half of the prolific hoxton whores, kevin andrew delivers a no nonsense slice of heads down house, perfectly tweaked to add a real edge to the dancefloor. stabby synths and a low slung bassline are the main features, whilst the track bubbles along with recognizable hooky riffs and enough breakdowns to make any discerning house crowd rock! danish hotshot, and one man remix machine, kid massive joins the party on the flip adding in a tougher constructed percussive feel whilst chopping up the groove.

mountain ash is an alias of producer lusty zanzibar. when the track portmanteau was sent to uber they immediately picked up this slice of hynotic experimental loveliness. layer upon layer of emotive synths and a pulsing arp help you drift towards a beautiful climax. coyote slow the pace a little keeping the hypnotic pulsing arpeggio and add some lazy beachside drums, percussion, a few pianos and kalimbas creating a beautiful beach bar shuffler. brooklyns finest zoovox create a subtle analogue rework staying close to original but adding their own delicate vibrations. drift away into the sunset.

culled over the naïve bedroom sessions of early university, “chillax” is akin to blaring an extra hot mixtape from a junky deck in your car on your way to cape canaveral to see the last space shuttle leave earth, all while trying to speed run kirby’s dream land on your sister’s gameboy color.
heavy sampling tends to drive this jeep and give it some character, many popular/unknown gems lifted from various dusty tapes and wax procured from thrift stores and vinyl throughout northern florida, cheap drum machines are clumsily slammed against it all and keep everything in a familiarly dance-y zone, while amateur chords and melodies are provided via guitar center synths and youtube ripped commodore 64 blips and stabs (note the cheeky nintendo voices as outliers). a fusion of analog discoveries and pixelated memories (melded together by the relentless florida heat), its an apt soundtrack for long and wistful road trips.
